Dapper Links: 5 Home Design Blogs to Bookmark Right Now

Captain Dapper has a bookmark list a mile long.

I can't imagine the world before blogs. I mean, I'm old enough to have lived in a blog-free world, but I'd be lost without them now. Blogs are part of my daily routine. They're my inspiration, my reminder that other people are as crazy as I am and, often, my main connection to a wider world. These are five of my favorite home design blogs right now:

HouseTweaking (above) I've been following along with Dana's design adventures from the very beginning. I first started reading when she, her husband and their two kids were living in a builder-grade home that she had upgraded with style and panache. I read along in shock when Dana announced that they were selling their big, beautifully designed home to take on the renovation of a small older home that she has affectionately dubbed "the underdog". I sent along congratulatory comments when she then announced that they were also adding an (unexpected) new member to the family. Well, the underdog is now looking like top dog and reading along through the process is one of my daily highlights.

Making a House a Home I actually followed Lana and Joey on Instagram and Twitter before I even started reading their blog. Through my Instagram lurking I fell in love with their bucolic life raising little Atlas the Great in upstate New York. Then, once I started started visiting their blog on a regular basis, I was completely hooked. In addition to posts about rehabbing their 6,200 square foot home in Westchester, New York, there are plenty of other DIY and style posts, along with a little shopping section featuring vintage goods.

Bright Bazaar I am a big proponent of utilizing color. Whether it's in fashion or the home, bringing in lots of color reminds us that life should is joyful. Will, aka Mr. Bazaar, is the king of color. His blog is like a big ol' dose of happiness everyday. Whether he's sharing his latest finds or documenting his DIY projects, Will has a fun and cheeky personality that always shines through. That he's easy on the eyes is a big bonus.

Take the Side Street This is another one of those blogs that I discovered by happenstance a few years ago. Back then I was still freelancing at Apartment Therapy and I would refer to Anna's blog often in my posts. I've been following along ever since, watching as she posts clever, budget-friendly before and after posts in the gradual transformation of her Idaho home.

Manhattan Nest Daniel's blog should be on everyone single person's blogroll. In fact, it should come pre-programmed in Chrome. First of all, Daniel is funny as hell. His storytelling often leaves me in laughing fits. Secondly, he has impeccable taste and amazing skills. Daniel has blogged the transformation of more than one rundown New York apartment and now he and his beau, Max, are rehabbing a big old house. Plus, two of the most adorable dogs you've ever seen makes frequent guest appearances on the blog.
