Throwback Thursday: Captain Dapper Wanted to Be Wonder Woman

Captain Dapper has always had a vivid imagination ... especially where fashion was concerned.

Last week's Throwback Thursday was so fun that I decided to do it again this week. So let's all travel back to 1982, when Captain Dapper was a skinny towheaded youth in rural Indiana. That's me on the left, proudly rocking my cut off shorts and cowboy boots. I'm leaning against my older brother, who's wearing a military shirt and hat. Yep, that was us exactly. He was always running around pretending to be a soldier, fighting enemies and building forts, while I was spinning around in circles trying to produce the giant fire ball that would help me to transform from Diana Prince to Wonder Woman.

At some point in the early 1980's, some brilliant person sold the three seasons of Wonder Woman into syndication. Every afternoon in 1982 you could find me sitting about six inches from the television, held in rapt attention as Lynda Carter fought crime and looked fabulous doing it. Immediately after each show I'd run out in the yard and reenact the show. Lacking the professional costumers of the show, not to mention the anatomy of Ms. Carter, I made use of my very active imagination and wore the cut-offs and cowboy boots you seen me in above. By all outward appearances I was just a skinny little boy in old clothes and boots but in my mind I was Wonder Woman.

Last weekend I had the opportunity to see my childhood hero at Northalsted Market Days. Sadly, this is was the only pic I was able to snap:

Moments after I snapped this pic, Lynda Carter took the stage and opened her show with a cover of a Black Keys song. And then it started to rain. And by rain I mean a damned downpour! At first we thought we could outlast the rain but it was unrelenting. As I darted away for my bike and The Mister for his car, I heard Lynda launch into an old jazz standard. With hair product dripping into my eyes, I had a moment of regret that I was going to miss the rest of the show. But, hey, I at least witnessed one number. Now I can mark that off my bucket list!
