Dapper Home: Shopping at Evanston ReBuilding Warehouse

Captain Dapper likes to recycle whenever possible.

Refreshing and repairing your home doesn't have to mean dropping big bucks at the big box hardware store. In most cities there are stores like Evanston ReBuilding Warehouse which accepts donations of and resells used home supplies. This presents a double advantage: it keeps perfectly good building supplies out of landfills and it offers them to shoppers at a price much, much lower than buying new.

I absolutely loathe the cheap, builder grade toilet at Captain Dapper HQ so I was excited to see this line of thrones awaiting new castles. I haven't decided whether toilet replacement is a DIY project I'm willing to undertake but if I do, I'll look here first.

Slumbering lumber awaits a second life as a new DIY project. From hardwood flooring to decorative trim, there's a lot of old wood hanging around the shop.

I'm tempted to cover the radiators at Captain Dapper HQ. These old radiator covers need a little cleaning up and perhaps a new paint job, but they would be easy to install and would add a nice decorative touch.

I'm slightly obsessed with french doors. I want to replace all the interior doors at Captain Dapper HQ with french doors like these. New french doors are quite spendy but these used options are about $75 each.

You've got to love a big old vintage range. So white and heavy. So many doors! And a nice work surface on top for those vintage kitchens that lack counter top work space.

A little more information about Evanston ReBuilding Exchange from their website: "The Evanston ReBuilding Warehouse is a non-profit organization that promotes reduction of waste in landfills through sustainable deconstruction and renovation building practices. Reclaimed building materials are sold at our warehouse at low cost to the community and support our education, job-training and job-development programs which foster individual, community and economic growth in Evanston and beyond."
