The Eclectic Shops of Chicago's Northcenter Neighborhood


Chicago's Northcenter neighborhood includes a long stretch of Lincoln Avenue that is sprinkled with an eclectic mix of retailers. While you may know the area best for being the location of Chicago's first Trader Joe's, there are a number of great indie retailers in the 'hood. Tucked into the vintage storefronts, you'll find a shop dedicated to menswear, a DIYer's paradise, a craft beer retailer and much more. 


Store name: Isle of Man
Address: 3856 North Lincoln Avenue
What it is: The men behind this store, Brice Cooper and Arthur Holstein, have branded themselves as a "purveyors of cool." Indeed, when you walk into the store and see motorcycles and leather jackets among the industrial modern decor, you want to buy into the store's cool factor.
What you'll find: Menswear, grooming products, a few home products.
Who will love it: Guys who like the finer things in life.

What it is: A collective of local designers who stock the shop with their handcrafted wares.
What you'll find: Women's clothing, accessories and textiles.
Who will love it: Sensible women with an appreciation for handcrafted quality.



Store name: The Needle Shop
Address: 3738 North Lincoln Avenue
What it is: Part fabric store, part learning annex, The Needle Shop is a shop for both novice and expert DIYers.
What you'll find: Fabric, patterns and other sewing and craft supplies.
Who will love it: DIYers and the people who shop for them.

What it is: In addition to Micheal Conte's curated yet eclectic collection of art, this store offers home staging and framing services.
What you'll find: Large and small scale art, plus home accessories.
Who will love it: Anyone with blank walls to fill.

What it is: Owner Barb Skupien's ode to the accessory.
What you'll find: Bags (for men and women), jewelry and other accessories.

What it is: A small upscale liquor store specializing in craft beers, wines and spirits.
What you'll find: Delicious small batch libations.
Who will love it: Everyone.


Store name: Old Sau's Resale & Antique Shop

What it is: This old school secondhand shop is the one holdout in what used to be a row of vintage stores on the street.
What you'll find: A little bit of everything.
Who will love it: Vintage hunters and secondhand fans.
