10 Reasons Captain Dapper Will Always Love Dolly Parton

This Drunk History segment on Dolly Parton made the rounds yesterday, including a stop on my own Facebook page. After I posted about it, I heard from a lot of friends who reported that they, too, love Miss Dolly. Even friends that I wouldn't have pegged for country music fans. There's just something about this lady that has universal appeal. Here are my top ten reasons for loving Dolly. What are yours?

1. Dolly wrote an anthem for the fair haired everywhere, Dumb Blonde. "Just because I'm blond don't think I'm done. 'Cause this dumb blonde ain't nobody's fool." This song is my anthem!

2. Dolly has used her celebrity and wealth to create a theme park in an area of the country that desperately needs jobs. What a fun way to bring some economic growth to a region!

3. Dolly wrote a song for Transamerica, a film about a pre-operative male-to-female transsexual. What other country singer would do something like that?!

4. Dolly sang Bobby McGee with Karen Black. Enough said.

5. Dolly's a friend of the gays. "We're supposed to love each other exactly for who and what we are." Amen, sister!

6. Dolly sings one of the best "I'm leavin' your sorry ass" songs - I'm Gone. It's a perfect tune to play while driving fast and singing out loud.

7. Dolly has remained close to her family - and kept them employed, too. Over the years, Dolly has featured her family on her TV shows and at her theme park.

8. Dolly gives a good interview. When she's not talking about how much money it takes to look cheap, she's making fun of her penchant for wigs and makeup.

9. Dolly started the Imagination Library, which sends free books to children's homes. Aww, kids reading are cute.

10. And, of course, the very best reason to love Miss Dolly Parton - she wrote I Will Always Love You. It's a beautiful song that was given a timeless cover by Whitney Houston. The song is not only heart breaking, it's record breaking. Check out Buzzfeed's 11 Fascinating Facts About I Will Always Love You to learn more about it.
