Everything You Wanted to Know About Men's Shoes
A Guide to Men's Shoe Styles

A note to Captain Dapper's gentleman readers (and the ladies - and gentlemen - who help dress them):

People notice your shoes. If you think that people don't look at your feet because they're down there on the ground, you're wrong. Everybody looks at your feet. When you're walking down the street, people look at your feet. (I'm totally going to write that line into a song.) When your standing at a party having a conversation, that person is probably going to look down at your feet. Whether you're wearing a suit, jeans or shorts, wearing the right shoes at the right time can elevate your look substantially.

When I came across this great infographic, I knew I had to share it. In one simple-to-bookmark graphic, you can get a great little compendium on men's shoes. From boat shoes to oxfords, this guide helps you identify shoe styles and when to wear them. It also points out when you can skip the socks, weather conditions most appropriate for each style and a few helpful tips about care and fit.

Check out the full infographic (and a tirade about sandals and pedicures) after the jump:

A Guide To Men

While we're on the subject of men's shoes, I have one simple request. Gentlemen of the world, if you're going to wear sandals, please, I beg of you, GET A PEDICURE. No one, not even your mama, wants to look at your long, dirty nasty ass toenails and crusty white heels. It's gross and it makes you look like a slob. Getting a pedicure is actually quite nice, guys. Nothing makes you feel more dominant than paying a stranger to work on your feet. That's some sort of Roman Empire shit, guys.

Of course, you don't have to go to a salon to get a pedicure. Buy yourself some nail trimmers and a pumice stone and give your feet a little attention the next time you're in the shower. Even if you're not going to wear sandals in the near future, keep your feet looking nice for your husband/wife/loved ones.

Thank your for your attention.

  1. Hi Jason, I saw you on #cbnchat. :) I agree with everything you say, especially the pedicure, although they're needed whether you wear sandals or not. The only thing I don't agree with the infographic, is the top category, dress. If you know how to style yourself, you can definitely wear "dressy" shoes with jeans & a blazer. The more different and fun the shoes are, the better. Thanks for the great post. :)

    1. I totally agree, Kimberly. Once you know the fashion rules, it's fun to break them. As this infographic is geared toward folks who might be trying to find their style, I thought I'd leave the rules as-is.
