Dapper Before & After: The Weathered Door's Mid-Century Nightstands

Captain Dapper has been DIYing furniture since way back when. Back I was a high school kid with big dreams and a tight budget, I painted old thrift store furniture to suit my needs. When I got my first apartment, I reupholstered the cushions and painted the frames of the hand-me-down furniture I inherited. That was long before the internet, blogs and digital cameras but those project live on in my memory. I'm glad they isn't evidence of my first attempts at DIYing because I don't think they would look half as good as The Weathered Door's nightstand makeover.

I was reminded of my early projects when I saw that this makeover comes from a blogger who has been remaking furniture since high school. While my high school days were twenty-ish years ago, Reeves, from The Weathered Door, was still there last year. It was in her senior year of high school that Reeves first started blogging about her furniture makeovers. Today, as a 19-year-old college student, Reeves is still transforming furniture, selling the pieces as she goes along.

I'm not usually a fan of this shape when it comes to mid-century furniture. There's something about the mix of boxy frame and curvy drawers that just bugs me. I've passed up many nightstands and tables that resemble the ones used in this project because I couldn't imagine them being salvageable. Reeve's choice of navy blue - and the fact that she salvaged the brass feet - is a wonderful update. The color feel really fresh. In their new incarnation, I wouldn't mind seeing them by my own bedside.
