Tie One On: 5 Scarf Tying Guides to Bookmark

Now that you know what to do with your scarves when you're not wearing them, it's time to think about the many ways you can tie one on. If you're just wrapping a scarf around your neck and calling it a day, you're missing a lot of opportunities to great creative. I went searching around the web for some scarf tying guides to help you (and me!) find new ways to wear this crucial cold weather accessory.

This simple little graphic from Bearings Guide gives you four ways to experiment with scarf tying. I'm a big fan of the slip knot - mainly because it's easy and it looks totally Euro-chic. I remember seeing the men of Paris wearing their scarves this way on my first visit there a decade ago. It was like an epiphany. And I've been wearing scarves that way ever since (as you can see in the photo at the top of this post).

Although a couple of the techniques in this tutorial from Mens Style Digest are the same as those in the previous guide, there are also a couple of new techniques. I like the look of the side knot (the middle style in the illustration above). The side knot would be a great style to wear with a V-neck sweater.

If you have an extra long scarf, this technique from Mrs. Polly Rogers would make great use of all that yardage. It's a little intricate but that's what I love about it.
The Budget Fashionista has 20 Ways to Tie a Scarf and, although geared toward women, there's still a lot a guy can glean from the list. I like this Neck Wrap. It's like wearing a turtleneck without all the cumbersome sweater!

Carrie Lieber offers up three more clever ways to tie a scarf, including the one shown here. Carrie calls this style "the southern cross."

OK, readers, now it's your turn. How do you wear your scarves? Are you a wrap it around your neck and go kind of person or do you like to get creative?
